Round trip programme: "Discover Africa"

After arrival, you may relax and take a breather on Sunday at the beach before you set out for our eleven-day trip in the following rundown.

  • (Monday to Friday) along the West Coast to the famous fishing town of Elmina resplendent with its ancient Portuguese slave trade castle and to a small palm beach resort. Next day (Tuesday) to Kakum National Park not far away: one "jungle night" in mosquito tents, very early next morning a "Canopy Walk" over suspended walkways connecting giant rainforest trees and an informative hiking trail. Then further on to the harbour city of Takoradi, driving past large coconut and rubber tree plantations. Overnight stay in a beautiful hotel at the beach at Axim. On Thursday an excursion by canoe to a village on stilts, Nzulezo, on the imposing Amansuri river, where we'll spend the night in a KASAPA-owned traditional stilt house. Back to Cape Coast on Friday; overnight stay in a comfortable guest house. In Cape Coast castle, you might, as well, visit the museum displaying the Ghanaian history.

  • Then a weekend visit to Mesomagor, a remote village of cocoa farmers (Saturday till Monday). Here you can see the peasants' way of processing palm nuts, cassava and cocoa, can taste fresh palm-wine and see a performance of the village's traditional bamboo orchestra with dancers and story-telling in a lively, humorous traditional evening entertainment - village life at it's best! Monday after lunch further on to

  • Kumasi and surrounding areas: historical traces of the powerful Ashanti kingdom; a long promenade through the immense and ever-busy Central Market (being the largest in West Africa); trips to a nearby village of traditional weavers and to the peaceful Busumtwi crater-lake on the banks of which we'll settle as a base for the next three nights in a beautiful lodge (Monday to Thursday).

Thursday, back to KASAPA Centre. On Friday you may have a sight-seeing tour of Accra or a "village tour" of the close-in-proximity fishing community of Nyanyano with a KASAPA local staff member, who can tell you everything about every-day life in his hometown: schools and the health post, the picturesque harbour with colourful fishing canoes, salt-ponds at the lagoon, pubs and the very old tree at the canoe-landing relating to the founding myth of the community. - Transfer to the airport of Accra for your return flight on Saturday evening.

The package includes: Accommodation in KASAPA Centre (very simple clay bungalows without air conditioning, but well adapted to the climate), during the round trips in comfortable guest houses and hotels (normally without air-condition, but ceiling fans); occasionally in very basic village guest houses or (for one night) in a forest camp with mosquito tents. We take care to let you have a suitable alternation between such "primitive" and more "refined" accommodations. Half-board (occasionally full-board in remote areas); transport with the KASAPA-owned mini bus (no air-conditioning); transfer from/to Accra airport; English-speaking tour guide. - Please note: Flights to/from Ghana are NOT included in the package and must be booked separately.

Minimum number of participants: 4 (with some additional charge also 2 or 3), maximum number: 10
